The GM Selection dialog allows the user to search the entire GM Library database. It currently supports 7 different filtering options.

Since the database may contain 10,000's of records, filtering of the database to exclude records that do not fit the criteria of the selection can be very helpful in achieving a suitable selection.

Magnitude

Mw: Moment Magnitude

ML: Local Magnitude (Richter Magnitude)

MS: Surface Wave Magnitude

M_Other: Other types of Magnitudes

Any: Choose any of the available Magnitudes

Distance

dEpi: The epicentral distance is defined as the shortest distance from a seismic station or any other site to the epicentre of the seismic event.

dHypo: The hypocentral distance is defined as the shortest distance from a seismic station or any other site to the hypocentre of the seismic event.

dRup: The shortest distance from a site or seismic station to the rupture surface

dSurf: Joyner-Boore Distance (Rjb) - shortest horizontal distance from the recording site to the vertical projection of the rupture.

dSeism: Campbell R Distance, shortest distance from the recording site to the seismogenic portion of the ruptures area (Campbell, 1977). This distance measure assumes that the rupture with the near-surface sediment or the mayow portion of fault gouge is non-seismogenic. The depth below which rupture is seismogenic was estimated using new guidelines from Campbell. The shortest distance from a site to a point on a rupture surface that is deeper than some minimum seismogenic depth.

dRMS: Root Mean Squared Distance

NEHRP Soil Type

A: Hard Rock, Vs30 > 1500 m/s

B: Rock, 760 m/s < Vs30 ≤ 1500 m/s

C: Very dense soil and soft rock, 360 m/s < Vs30 ≤ 760 m/s

D: Stiff Soil, 180 m/s ≤ Vs30 ≤ 360 m/s

E: A soil profile with Vs30 < 180 m/s

F: Soils requiring site-specific evaluations

(A,B): A or B

(B,C): B or C

(C,D): C or D

(D,E): D or E

(E,F):  E or F

User-defined: User can type other combinations. Example: A,B,C (i.e. A or B or C)

Undefined

Vs30

Shear wave velocity (m/s) at a depth of 30 m. User can specify a range of velocities in which the generated ground motions were recorded at the defined ranged.

Duration or Freq

Duration or Freq: Users can adjust two additional filters by setting the range of interest for the duration or the frequency of the record.

The available Duration and Frequency options are as follows:

D5-95: earthquake duration is determined based on the total time elapsed from 5%  to 95% of the integral of the acceleration

D5-75: earthquake duration is determined based on the total time elapsed from 5%  to 75% of the integral of the acceleration

Duration: Period of the record

FreqHP: High Pass Frequency

FreqLP: Low Pass Frequency

FreqLU: Lowest Usable Frequency

Samples/Second: Number of samples per second (1/dt)

CAV: Cumulative absolute velocity

Io: Arias intensity

A frequent practice is to define the D5-95 and FreqLU to filter desired records.

Note that D5-95 or D5-75 may not be calculated for records in the database. The user may need to pre-compute these IM's for the desired records (using the Compute Sa & IM's tool) before filtering by this IM. This only needs to be done once, since those IM's will then be cached in the database.

Can be rotated to FN/FP

If checked, only records that can be rotated to FN/FP will be included. A record can be rotated to FN/FP if the following are available in the metadata: 1) Fault-Parallel Azimuth (FpAz), 2) Azimuth of H1 component (AzimuthInst), 3) Azimuth of H2 component (AzimuthInst). QuakeManager searches for records with available component azimuths and Fault prallel azimuth for Triplets. Note that this option does not check if the file exists on the disk.
